Baked Ziti Recipe Ingredients

Baked ziti is one of the tastiest meals you can make without being a skilled chef.

Anyone with an hour to spare can create a delicious meal for her family.

To begin, you will need the following ingredients:

1 pound of dry ziti pasta

1 raw onion

1 tablespoon of crushed red pepper

1 teaspoon of ground black pepper

1 pound of extra-lean ground beef

2 (26 ounce) jars of spaghetti sauce

1.5 cups of sour cream

12 ounces of shredded mozzarella cheese

2 tablespoons of parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon of crushed basil

Baked Ziti Recipe Preparation

Our baked ziti recipe is easy to prepare:

1. Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil.

2. Pour all of the uncooked ziti into the pot of boiling water.

3. Allow the ziti to boil until firm but soft enough to eat (al dente). Firmness can vary based on personal preference.

4. When ziti is boiled to preference, drain ziti into a large collander. Allow ziti to cool at room temperature.

5. Dice or chop the raw onion to preference.

6. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and the chopped onion over medium heat until brown.

7. Pour the contents of both jars of spaghetti sauce into the skillet and with the ground beef and onion and simmer for 20 minutes.

8. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and line a 9 in. x 13 in. baking dish with butter or non-stick baking spray.

9. Add your ingredients to the baking dish as follows:

a. Layer 1: 1/2 pound of ziti

b. Layer 2: 6 ounces of mozzarella cheese

c. Layer 3: 1.5 cups of sour cream

d. Layer 4: 26 ounces of spaghetti sauce

e. Layer 5: 1/2 pound of ziti

f. Layer 6: 6 ounces of mozzarella cheese

g. Layer 7: 26 ounces of spaghetti sauce.

10. Top the ziti with parmesan cheese.

11. Bake for 30 minutes in your preheated oven or until the cheese is fully melted.

That's it! Your meal is ready to eat. Serve with a salad and garlic bread or something you love.
